I am often asked if I studied photography in college and it always makes me laugh... I wish I was so disciplined as to have known what I wanted to "do with my life" when I was in school - and I didn't even graduate from college until the age of thirty-five! Nope, I didn't study photography, I studied psychology- mostly because by the time I finally returned to school, I had lived & worked in the real world long enough to have become absolutely fascinated/bewildered by the behaviors of human beings. As it turns out, all the time I spent studying our many strange ways made me a much less frustrated, more patient, empathetic & perceptive person- all of which, it seems, happen also to be great characteristics in a photographer!

I've simply been mesmerized by photographs for as long as I can remember ... in fact, I suspect my career fate was sealed during the hours I spent looking at old family albums as a child- albums which are now all but destroyed from relentless wear & tear. I've had my own camera since the age of eleven (thanks Mom & Dad!) and since then have pretty much always been the girl at the party/game/beach/school play/"insert other event here" with a camera in her hands. I have easily taken more than a million pictures in my life and I still have most of them (it's a little ridiculous, really..!) After more than thirty years, my camera feels like an extension of my self and I am still in love with its ability to stop a moment in time in one little 4x6 frame, a tangible representation of something that is altogether intangible. And I really, really love that I can use my camera to do this for you!

Welcome to Sandi Heinrich Photography where you get to be.who.you.are. Please, take some time to scroll through my galleries for a sense of my style of photography. If you think you might like to work with me, please do say hi! Since October 2005, I've had the honor of documenting the lives of hundreds of beautifully unique families, couples and individuals, all of whom have enriched my life in more ways than I can count, and I would love to work with you too!

The be.who.you.are. theme is inspired by one of my favorite quotes, allegedly penned by one of my childhood heroes, Dr. Seuss...

Be who you are
and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind.
